What is the difference between PVC and XLPE cable?
PVC insulation is rated to about 70°C conductor temperature, while XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) is rated to about 90°C, allowing higher current or lower temperature rise. XLPE also offers better resistance to heat and chemical ageing.
How are cable sizes chosen?
Cross-sectional area (mm²) is selected from the load current, the installation method, grouping, and ambient temperature, then checked against voltage drop limits. Sizing should follow the relevant wiring regulations and manufacturer current-rating tables.
