Residential Solar Electrical

Solar electrical products are the balance-of-system components that safely convert, carry, combine and protect DC and AC power in a rooftop PV installation. This category covers inverters, solar cable, combiner boxes and DC breakers built to IEC solar standards for reliable, code-compliant grid-tied systems.

Types

Solar Inverter

A solar inverter converts DC electricity from PV modules into grid-synchronised AC for use or export. Grid-tie…

FAQ

What is balance-of-system (BOS) in solar?
BOS refers to everything in a PV system besides the panels — inverter, cabling, combiner box, protection devices, mounting and connectors. These solar electrical parts determine safety and efficiency.
Why do solar systems need DC-rated components?
PV strings produce continuous high-voltage DC that does not self-extinguish an arc like AC. DC-rated cable, breakers and switches are engineered to safely break and insulate DC, so AC-rated parts must never be substituted.
Which IEC standards apply to solar electrical products?
Common references include IEC 62109 (inverter safety), IEC 62930/EN 50618 (PV DC cable), IEC 61439 (assemblies/combiner boxes) and IEC 60947-2/-3 (DC circuit breakers and switches). Always confirm the destination market's grid code.
