Solar Cable

Solar (PV) cable is a single-core, double-insulated DC cable for connecting modules, strings and inverters. It uses cross-linked (XLPE/EPR) insulation that is UV-, ozone- and weather-resistant for outdoor rooftop use, rated for high DC voltage and a wide temperature range per IEC 62930 / EN 50618.

⚠️ Note: PV cable carries live DC whenever modules are illuminated and cannot simply be switched off at the panel; treat conductors as energised and follow safe DC working practices.

Typical specification

FAQ

Why can't ordinary building wire be used for PV?
PV cable is double-insulated and specifically UV-, weather- and heat-resistant for permanent outdoor DC use; standard building cable degrades outdoors and may not be rated for the continuous DC voltage. Use IEC 62930/EN 50618 cable.
How is solar cable size chosen?
Size is selected from the string current, the system voltage and an acceptable voltage-drop (commonly kept low over the run), then derated for ambient temperature and how cables are grouped or routed.
